Clothing & Accessories

Adults’ and children’s clothing in good, clean condition — coats, jackets, dresses, trousers, jumpers, shirts, shoes and handbags. Please avoid heavily worn items or anything with significant staining. Fold or bag them loosely so the driver can handle them easily. Note that we cannot accept socks, underwear, nightwear, personalised clothing or suitcases.

Books, CDs & DVDs

Paperbacks, hardbacks, children’s picture books, cookery books, novels and non-fiction all find new homes quickly. CDs and DVDs are welcome too. Every item you donate saves the water, energy and CO₂ involved in pulping, printing and transporting a brand-new copy — a meaningful saving when you’re clearing out a whole bookshelf.

Toys & Games

Children’s toys that are clean, complete and in safe working order. Soft toys, action figures, puzzles (we cannot take jigsaws), building sets and educational toys are all ideal. We cannot collect ride-on toys, ball pits, baby bouncers, play gyms, pushchairs, cots or car seats — but many smaller, good-condition toys are very welcome.

Kitchenware

Pots, pans, baking trays, mixing bowls, mugs, crockery, cutlery sets, serving dishes and small kitchen gadgets are all collectible. Give items a clean before setting them out. We cannot take microwaves, white goods or large appliances, but most everyday kitchen items are absolutely fine.

Linen & Soft Furnishings

Bed sheets, pillowcases, duvet covers, towels and tablecloths — all clean and in good condition. Please note that we cannot accept duvets, pillows, blankets, sleeping bags or mattress protectors. Folded linen in a tied bag or box is easiest for our drivers to handle at the kerbside.

General Household Items

Ornaments, vases, picture frames are not accepted, but decorative items such as small sculptures, candle holders and similar pieces often can be. If you’re unsure about a specific item, check our full accepted-items list before booking. The guiding principle is: if it’s clean, complete and genuinely usable, it almost certainly has a home somewhere.

Rural addresses outside Truro, Penzance and other main towns may have slightly fewer available dates, so booking as soon as you know you have items ready is always the safer approach. The booking form will show you the next available slots for your specific postcode.

No — you don’t need to be in. Simply leave your bags or boxes on the doorstep, inside the gate or in any clearly visible spot at the front of the property before 7 am on the booked day. The driver will collect without needing access to the property itself. If you’re concerned about items being left exposed, a note on or near the bags confirming they’re for collection is perfectly sufficient.

A large percentage of the proceeds from selling collected items goes to charitable causes. The specific charities supported may vary over time, but the commitment to passing a substantial share of revenue on to good causes is central to how the service operates. When you book, you’ll see current information about which causes are being supported.

The main things to do are: wash or wipe items clean, make sure clothing is dry before bagging, and check that kitchenware is free of food residue. Pack everything into tied bin bags or lidded boxes rather than leaving items loose. Books should be dry and free of mould — Cornwall’s coastal climate means damp storage can occasionally be an issue, so a quick check before bagging is worthwhile. You don’t need to provide pristine presentation, just clean and manageable.

Items in good enough condition are sorted for direct reuse — sold on to find a new home. Where items fall below reuse standard but are still recyclable, they go into appropriate textile or material recycling streams rather than landfill. Our aim is always reuse first, because that carries the greatest environmental and charitable value. Recycling is the fallback, not the default.
