Old Phones and Chargers Idle in Walton-on-Thames?
Walton-on-Thames households tend to collect more small technology than they realise — a smartphone traded in for a newer model, a tablet the kids have outgrown, a laptop sitting idle since someone got a work machine. Anglo Doorstep Collections exists to make donating your working electricals and devices easy rather than something that keeps getting put off: no bag to lug to a charity shop, no trip to the household waste site, just a free collection arranged from your own front step.
The same free service also covers Hersham, Weybridge, Esher and Molesey, so a household clear-out can be organised whichever side of Walton-on-Thames you happen to live.

Questions Walton-on-Thames residents often ask us
Yes — if you’re moving to a smaller place near the Thames or into one of the retirement developments around the town, one booking can cover everything from an old laptop to a box of chargers and handsets, as long as each item is small, electrical and in working order. It’s often far quicker than trying to sell each piece individually or ferrying it all to a charity shop yourself.
Absolutely — that’s really the point of a doorstep collection. There’s no need to carry anything to the high street or to the tip at all; you simply book a day, leave your bagged items on the step, and our driver takes it from there.
We can only collect electricals that are in working order, since the whole idea is that someone else gets to use them again. If something switches on and does its job despite a scratch or scuff, that’s fine — but items that no longer work properly aren’t suitable for this service.
Working items are passed on so they can be used again rather than replaced by something newly manufactured, with proceeds supporting charitable causes. It keeps good devices circulating locally and further afield instead of sitting unused in a cupboard or heading for landfill.
Our service is completely free, whereas the council’s bulky collection usually carries a charge per visit. For small electricals specifically — phones, laptops, kettles, power tools and the like — booking with us costs nothing and supports charity rather than simply being disposed of.
Think mobile phones and smartphones, tablets and e-readers, laptops and desktop PCs with their keyboards and mice, headphones and speakers, toasters, kettles and blenders, hair dryers and straighteners, hand power tools such as drills and sanders, and digital cameras or radios. We can’t take TVs, printers, microwaves, lamps, light bulbs, tower fans, sewing machines or large appliances like washing machines and fridges.
Sign out of accounts, do a factory reset and remove the SIM card and any memory card from phones and tablets. Keep each charger or cable with its device, wrap screens in newspaper or bubble wrap, and pack everything into a sturdy bag or box labelled “Anglo Doorstep Collections” for the driver.
No — most Walton-on-Thames residents simply leave their labelled bag or box on the doorstep or somewhere dry and sheltered, such as a porch, and add a note in the booking about exactly where to find it. The driver will collect it without needing you to answer the door.
Why it’s worth clearing the drawer, not just the cupboard
The UK produces something like 1.6 million tonnes of electrical waste every year, among the highest amounts per person anywhere in the world, and an estimated 880,000 unused electrical items are thought to be sitting idle in homes across the country — alongside around 103,000 tonnes thrown into household bins annually rather than recycled or reused (Material Focus, 2024). Globally, only around 22% of e-waste is properly collected and recycled (Global E-waste Monitor, 2024), which means most of the metals and materials inside simply go to waste, and anything left in landfill can leak harmful substances into the ground. Passing on a phone or tablet while it still works means it can be used again rather than another one being newly manufactured, and it helps shrink that nationwide pile of unused devices sitting in drawers — while reusing any working electrical item avoids the considerable carbon cost of producing a brand-new replacement from scratch. For a town of around 23,000 people close to the Thames, that adds up: every working item collected from a Walton-on-Thames doorstep is one less item manufactured, one less item in landfill, and one more reason the local circular economy keeps ticking over.
