Bagshot Drawer Full of Old Gadgets? We Collect Free

Open a kitchen drawer in most Bagshot homes and you’ll likely find a tangle of old chargers, a superseded phone or a tablet that’s been replaced but never thrown out. Anglo Doorstep Collections exists to stop that stockpile going to waste: we collect working electricals and devices straight from your doorstep, anywhere in Bagshot, at no cost to you, so those items get a second life and your old gadgets turn into funds for good causes instead of clutter.

A quiet circular economy on your street

Bagshot is a small town of around 5,000 people, which means word travels and habits spread — once a few households get into the habit of passing on working tech rather than binning it, it tends to catch on. We also collect from Camberley, Lightwater, Windlesham and Sunningdale, so the same free doorstep service covers a decent stretch of west Surrey, keeping good electricals circulating locally rather than disappearing into landfill the moment something newer comes along.

Every phone, laptop or kettle that still works and finds a new owner is one less item manufactured from scratch. That matters more than it might seem: electricals are built from metals and components that take real energy, water and carbon to mine, refine and assemble. Reusing a working item sidesteps all of that upfront environmental cost, while recycling the ones that have genuinely reached the end of their life recovers valuable materials like copper, aluminium and small traces of gold that would otherwise be lost. Both routes beat the alternative of an item sitting dead in a drawer or, worse, ending up in a bin where it can eventually leak harmful substances into the ground.

Nationally, an estimated 880 million unused electrical items are gathering dust in UK homes, with around 103,000 tonnes thrown into household bins every year (Material Focus, 2024). Globally, only 22% of e-waste is properly collected and recycled. Every device you hand over for reuse instead of binning helps chip away at those numbers.

What we can take off your hands

We collect electricals and gadgets that still switch on and work — that’s the one firm rule, because reuse only helps if the item has useful life left in it. Mobile phones and old smartphones, tablets and e-readers, laptops and desktop PCs with their keyboards and mice, headphones and speakers, toasters, kettles and blenders, hair dryers and straighteners, hand power tools such as drills and sanders, and digital cameras or radios are all typical examples of what ends up in our collection bags. What we’re not able to take includes TVs, printers, microwaves, lamps and light bulbs, tower fans, sewing machines, record players and large white goods — if you’re unsure where something sits, it’s worth checking before booking.

Getting items ready takes a few minutes. Switch each one on to confirm it still works before it goes in the bag — a dead battery is fine, a dead device isn’t. For phones, tablets and laptops, sign out of your accounts, run a factory reset and remove any SIM or memory card so your data leaves with you, not the device. Keep chargers and cables paired with whatever they belong to, since a charger-less gadget is far less useful to its next owner. Wrap anything with a screen in newspaper or bubble wrap, pack it all into a sturdy bag or box, and label it clearly for the driver.

Why this matters beyond your own clear-out

Charities rely on a steady supply of donated goods to fund their work, and electricals that still function are some of the most useful things people can give — they can be resold or reused far more easily than items that need repair first. A clear-out that includes old tech is also an easy way to make the whole job feel worthwhile: instead of wondering what to do with a drawer of outdated phones, you box them up once and they’re gone, with a charitable cause benefiting from the outcome. There’s no trip to a charity shop with an armful of cables, no awkward wait at the local tip, and no council bulky-waste booking fee to pay — the collection comes to your doorstep and costs nothing.

That convenience also supports a more sustainable household rhythm generally. Rather than letting unused electricals accumulate for years until a big, overwhelming clear-out becomes unavoidable, a free doorstep collection makes it easy to let go of things as soon as they stop being useful to you, while they’re still useful to somebody else. It’s a small shift in habit, but across a town the size of Bagshot — and the surrounding villages we also serve — it adds up to a meaningful amount of reuse rather than waste.

A short word on safety: pack items so cables are coiled rather than trailing, screens are protected from knocks, and anything with a blade or sharp edge, such as a hand power tool, is wrapped securely before it goes in the bag. This keeps things straightforward for the collection driver and reduces the risk of damage to items that are otherwise perfectly good to pass on.
