Bed Linen and Towels Taking Over a Coventry Cupboard?

A knotted charity collection bag of donated linen and towels on a front step in Coventry

There’s a particular kind of satisfaction in finally tackling the airing cupboard — pulling out the spare duvet covers nobody’s used since the kids left and the towels you upgraded two Christmases ago, and knowing they’re going somewhere useful rather than into a bin bag. Anglo Doorstep Collections makes that clear-out guilt-free: we collect unwanted bed linen and towels straight from your doorstep across Coventry, completely free, and put what’s still usable back into circulation to help people and causes that need it.

How a Collection Works

1

Book your slot

Tell us roughly what you’re putting out and pick a day that suits. There’s nothing to pay and no obligation to hit a minimum amount — one bag is enough if that’s all you have.

2

Sort what’s leaving the house

Gather up flat sheets, fitted sheets, duvet covers, pillowcases, bath towels, hand towels, tea towels and any table linen that’s no longer earning its keep. Leave aside anything torn, badly stained, or past the point someone else could reasonably use it.

3

Bag it clean and dry

No ironing, no neat folding required — our reuse partners handle their own sorting. Just make sure everything’s clean and dry before it goes in the bag, then seal it so nothing’s exposed to the weather while it waits outside.

4

We’ll confirm your time slot

The evening before collection, we’ll send a rough time window so you know when to expect the driver. There’s no need to wait in — leave the bags somewhere visible outside your property and we’ll take it from there.

5

Your donation goes to work

Anything still fit for use is passed to reuse partners for redistribution or resale, with a large percentage of proceeds going to charity. Items too worn for reuse are sent for textile recycling rather than landfill.

Charity bags and a box of donated linen and towels by a front door in Coventry

Please note that while we’re happy to take bedding, linen and general bedroom items in good condition, we’re not able to collect pillows, blankets, duvets, sleeping bags, mattress protectors or cushion covers. If you’re ever unsure whether something qualifies, check our collections page before you book.

It’s worth thinking about where this stuff actually goes if it isn’t donated. Nationally, the UK throws away an estimated 920,000 tonnes of textiles every year — around 13 kg for every person — which works out as roughly 4,485 tonnes discarded annually across Coventry alone, a city of some 345,000 people. Growing and processing the cotton for a single t-shirt uses about 2,700 litres of water, and synthetic fabrics can sit in landfill for decades without breaking down. These figures are estimates drawn from published UK research, not exact measurements, but they make the case clearly enough: reusing roughly 1 kg of clothing or linen is thought to avoid somewhere in the region of 3–4 kg of CO2 compared with manufacturing new, and a full bag of donated textiles — perhaps 8 to 10 kg — can collectively save many thousands of litres of water once you add up everything inside it. For a household in Earlsdon or anywhere else across the city, handing over a bag of old towels costs nothing and genuinely counts.

Linen clear-outs rarely happen for no reason. They tend to follow a house move, a kitchen or bathroom refit that’s left old tea towels and tablecloths surplus to requirements, or simply the long-overdue realisation that three sets of guest bedding for a spare room nobody sleeps in is three sets too many. We’ve collected some genuinely unexpected combinations over the years — a full set of banqueting tablecloths from a retired caterer, boxes of hotel-weight towels after a bed and breakfast downsized — proof that it’s not always just the everyday bedsheets that need a new home. Whatever prompted the sort-through, donating rather than binning means someone else benefits instead of it all going to waste, and it frees up a cupboard you’ll actually enjoy opening again.

A linen clear-out rarely stays contained to just the airing cupboard, either. Once people start, it tends to spread — kitchen drawers full of never-used tea towels, a box of odds and ends left over from a house move, a wardrobe that still needs sorting. We can collect all of it in one visit alongside your linen and towels: books, clothes, toys, household items and kitchenware, so there’s no need to juggle several separate bookings for one clear-out.

We’re not limited to Coventry’s boundary, either. The same free doorstep service covers households in Bedworth, Kenilworth, Nuneaton and Earlsdon, so donating is just as easy whether you’re close to the city centre or further out. You’ll find the full detail of where we operate on our collections near you page.

Anyone who’s tried hauling a bulky bag of bedding onto a bus or squeezing it into a car boot for a trip to a charity shop knows it’s rarely worth the hassle — shops are often overstocked with textiles already, parking near Coventry’s city centre is rarely simple, and it’s a lot of effort for something that should take two minutes. Doorstep collection sidesteps all of that. There’s no minimum amount to put out, nowhere to drive to, and no need to be home when we call — you just leave the bags out and get on with your day. Coventry’s council and local waste services deal with enough textile waste as it is; every bag that’s donated instead of binned is one less contributing to that total, and one more helping fund the charitable causes our partners support.
