How Your Donations Help | Anglo Doorstep Collections

Every bag of unwanted items left out for an Anglo Doorstep Collections pickup does more than clear space at home. Understanding how your donations help shows the full journey your items take, from your doorstep to a new home, and the difference they make to good causes along the way. This page explains what we collect, where it goes and how your donation turns into real support for charity.

Anglo Doorstep Collections offers a free charity doorstep collection service. You book a slot, pack your unwanted clothes and household items, and we collect them straight from your door. You do not even need to be at home. We call it Effortless Giving, because doing something good should be simple and should fit easily around everyday life.

What we collect

We collect a wide range of reusable household items. The main categories are clothes, shoes, books, CDs, DVDs and video games, small electricals, kitchenware, toys and household linen such as towels and bedding. Bags, accessories and many other everyday items are welcome too. The one thing all donations have in common is that they should be in good condition, because every item is sorted and re-homed for genuine reuse rather than thrown away.

Where your donations go

Once collected, your items are taken away and carefully sorted into categories. From there, they are re-homed to communities around the world where they are needed and wanted most. A coat that no longer fits, a set of pans that has been replaced or a box of books that has been read all become genuinely useful again for someone else.

This is the heart of what makes donation worthwhile. Nothing reusable is wasted, and your clear-out gives your items a real second life instead of an early end in a bin. The more that is passed on in good condition, the more people your single collection can help.

How your donations support charity

Your donations also raise money for good causes. After costs, 60% of the proceeds from the items we collect go to our partnered charities. That means every donation you make turns directly into support for important work, on top of helping the person who receives the item itself.

Our charity partners are Action for Children, which helps children and families across the UK; Advance, a charity supporting women and children affected by domestic abuse; the RSPCA, which rescues and protects animals; and Together for Short Lives, the leading UK charity for children with life-limiting conditions. We also work with Ecologi to plant trees, and when you book a collection you can choose to have a tree planted. One simple booking can support all of this at once.

Good for the environment too

Re-homing items keeps them in use and out of landfill, which is good for the planet as well as for people. Reusing goods avoids the waste of disposal and reduces the need for new products to be manufactured from fresh resources. Clothing makes a particularly large difference: for every kilogram of clothes we re-home, around 25kg of carbon dioxide and 10,000 litres of fresh water are saved compared with producing new garments. Across thousands of collections, those savings add up quickly.

How it works

Donating with us takes four simple steps. You book a collection slot online using your postcode and choose a day that suits you. You pack your unwanted items into suitable bags or boxes. We collect them from your doorstep on the agreed day, sending a reminder the evening before. Then we sort, re-home and donate. There is no cost, no need to travel and no need to be in when we call.

Giving that fits around your life

One of the biggest barriers to donating is simply finding the time. Charity shops have opening hours, clothing banks mean a special trip, and a busy week leaves little room for either. A doorstep collection removes that problem entirely. Because you do not need to be home, you can book a collection around work, family and everything else, leave your items out on the day, and know they will be on their way to doing good. Effortless Giving means the responsible choice is also the easy one.
