Got Old Coats and Jeans to Clear in Bridgwater?

Bridgwater’s wardrobes tell the same story as most households across Somerset: coats that no longer fit, jeans from a different season of life, and jumpers that simply got overtaken by newer favourites. Rather than letting those garments sit in a bag at the back of a cupboard, Anglo Doorstep Collections will come straight to your door, free of charge, and take them off your hands for good.

Our booking form takes a couple of minutes to fill in. Many Bridgwater households use the spring clear-out or the run-up to the new school term as their prompt to finally sort the wardrobe, and both periods get busy quickly, so booking a little ahead gives you a wider choice of dates.
Bag up what you no longer wear
Shirts, jeans, dresses, hoodies, jackets and jumpers can all go in together, as long as everything is clean and dry. If you’re clearing out bulkier items such as coats or heavy knitwear, popping them into their own bag makes them easier to lift, but there’s no need to sort by size, season or type. One bag or ten — it makes no difference, and there’s nothing to pay either way.
Put them out and get on with your day
You’ll get a text the evening before letting you know your collection window, so there’s no guesswork involved. There’s no need to wait in — leave your bags by the front door or just inside the porch and carry on with work, the school run or whatever else the day holds. It’s built to work around real routines, not the other way round.
Your clothes move on to someone who’ll wear them
Our driver collects everything directly from your step and passes it on to charities and reuse partners, who get those t-shirts, skirts, cardigans and trousers back into circulation. No trip into town, no queuing at a donation bank, no items sitting in the boot of your car for a fortnight.
What’s Worth Putting Aside
Clothing comes in more forms than most people realise once they actually start sorting through a wardrobe — everyday basics like t-shirts and tops sit alongside smarter pieces such as blouses and shirts, outerwear ranges from lightweight jackets to proper winter coats, and then there’s the in-between layer of jumpers, cardigans, hoodies and sweaters that get worn on repeat through a Somerset autumn. Trousers, jeans, skirts and dresses round things out. If a garment is clean, dry and still has wear left in it, it’s worth keeping aside rather than binning. We aren’t able to take socks, underwear, personalised clothing or nightwear such as dressing gowns and pyjamas, so it’s worth checking your bags before they go out, but beyond that, most everyday clothing is fair game.
Bridgwater, and the Villages Around It
With a population of around 41,000, Bridgwater is a manageable size, yet getting a bag of old clothes to a charity shop or donation bank still competes with work, family and the hundred other things on a to-do list. For elderly residents, anyone with mobility issues, or households where every spare half hour is already spoken for, having someone collect from the doorstep removes that barrier completely. No drive into town, no awkward juggling of bags and car boots, no need to time a trip around shop opening hours.
The same service covers the villages and towns around Bridgwater too. We collect from Taunton, Highbridge, North Petherton and Cannington on the same rounds, so a bag of outgrown school jumpers in North Petherton or a wardrobe clearout in Cannington is picked up exactly the same way — book online, bag it up, leave it out.
A house move is often what finally forces the issue. Packing up a home has a way of exposing exactly how many clothes have been quietly accumulating in drawers and the backs of wardrobes, and deciding what actually makes the cut for the next place is a useful discipline in itself — if something hasn’t been worn in a year, it’s rarely worth the box space. But you don’t need to be moving house to benefit from a clear-out. Treating donation as a regular habit, rather than a once-a-decade event, keeps wardrobes manageable and means good clothing moves on to someone who needs it while it’s still in decent condition, rather than sitting unworn for years first. There’s a genuine lift that comes with that kind of tidy-up too — freeing up drawer space and seeing an organised wardrobe again is a small but real boost to the feel of a home, quite apart from the good the donation itself does.
It’s also worth thinking of unwanted clothing as a resource rather than rubbish. Garments that no longer suit your life can still have plenty of wear left for someone else, and every piece that re-enters that reuse economy is one less item that needs manufacturing from scratch. A single cotton t-shirt takes an estimated 2,700 litres of water to produce, and synthetic fabrics can sit in landfill for decades without breaking down — so keeping clothes circulating rather than discarding them is one of the more straightforward, low-effort environmental choices available to any household. A full bag of donated clothing, roughly 8–10 kg, can save many thousands of litres of water across everything inside it, based on published UK estimates, and reusing around 1 kg of clothing avoids an estimated 3–4 kg of CO2 compared with producing something new. Scaled across the UK, where some 920,000 tonnes of textiles are discarded each year — about 13 kg per person — Bridgwater’s share of that comes to an estimated 533 tonnes annually. Choosing to donate rather than bin, even a single bag at a time, chips away at that figure and eases the load on Somerset’s waste streams in the process.
“It’s rarely a lack of willingness that stops people donating — it’s finding the time. Having the collection come to the doorstep takes that excuse away entirely.”
While You’re Sorting the Wardrobe
Clearing out clothes often opens the door to a wider tidy-up, and we’re happy to help with that on the same visit. We also collect books, toys and household items, so there’s no need to arrange separate visits for separate rooms.
