Donation Pickup of clothes, near you in Exeter!

donated items ready for doorstep collection

Most of us have a cupboard, a spare room or a loft that’s been quietly filling up for years. If you live in Exeter — or just outside in Topsham, Heavitree, Exminster or Alphington — Anglo Doorstep Collections gives you a genuinely good reason to finally tackle it. We’ll come straight to your front door, collect your unwanted items completely free of charge, and make sure they go on to do real good: supporting charitable causes and finding their way to people who can actually use them. Nothing sits in a bin bag waiting for a tip run. Instead, it all gets put to work.

How It Works

1

Book your collection online or by phone

Pick a date that fits around your life. Having something confirmed in the diary has a funny way of making the decluttering actually happen — it turns a vague intention into a proper plan with a deadline attached.

2

Choose your charity

As part of the booking, you decide which charity receives the benefit. The choice is yours entirely, so the proceeds from your donations head exactly where you’d like them to go.

3

Pack up your donations

Work through your rooms and set aside anything you no longer need or use. We collect gently worn clothing — shirts, trousers, coats, jumpers, dresses, skirts and more — as well as shoes, bags, books, toys, kitchenware, bric-à-brac and much more. Bag or box everything up and label it clearly so our driver can identify it straight away.

4

We collect from your doorstep

On the agreed day, our driver comes to your address and takes everything away. Leave your bags or boxes somewhere visible outside — there’s no need for you to be at home, so your day carries on as normal.

Why Donate with Anglo Doorstep Collections in Exeter?

Completely Free

There’s no fee at any stage. Whether you’re booking from central Exeter, Alphington, Heavitree or anywhere else in our area, the collection costs you nothing at all.

Doorstep Convenience

Forget loading the car and hunting for a donation point. We cover Exeter and the surrounding communities — Topsham, Exminster, Heavitree, Alphington — coming directly to your door so you don’t have to go anywhere.

Supporting Good Causes

A large percentage of proceeds goes to charity. You choose the cause at the point of booking, which means every item you leave out is actively contributing to something that matters to you.

Keeping Items Out of Landfill

In 2023 alone, we prevented over 5,000 tonnes of material from going to landfill. Every bag you leave out plays a part in that total.

Growing Greener Together

We partner with Ecologi so you can plant a tree with your booking. Since 2023, we’ve planted more than 53,000 trees — and counting.

Regular Collections

We run regular rounds across Exeter and its neighbouring communities, so there’s nearly always a slot to suit you. Book a date and give your clear-out the focus it needs to actually get done.

Common Questions

We’re happy to take a wide range of gently worn clothing in good condition — tops, t-shirts, shirts, trousers, jeans, jumpers, hoodies, cardigans, jackets, coats, dresses, skirts, blouses and similar everyday items. Please bear in mind we can’t accept nightwear, dressing gowns, pyjamas, personalised clothing, socks or underwear. See our what we collect page for the full details.

Not at all. Simply leave your bags or boxes somewhere visible outside on the booked date and our driver will collect them. There’s no need to rearrange your day around the collection.

None whatsoever. The service is completely free for households throughout Exeter and the surrounding areas, including Topsham, Heavitree, Exminster and Alphington.

Quite a variety — shoes, bags, books, toys, kitchenware, bric-à-brac and much more are all welcome. Everything should be in sound, usable condition so it can genuinely be of use to the next person.

Our Collection Area in Exeter

Our rounds cover Exeter itself — home to around 130,000 people — along with the nearby communities of Topsham, Heavitree, Exminster and Alphington. The map below gives a broad sense of the area we serve. If you’re unsure whether your street falls within our route, just get in touch or go ahead and book and we’ll confirm straightaway.

Exeter is a city with an unusually varied housing stock — Georgian terraces in the city centre, post-war estates on the outskirts, and older village-feel streets in communities like Topsham and Heavitree. That variety means most households have accumulated a mix of things they’ve simply stopped using: outgrown children’s clothing, kitchen gadgets that never quite earned their cupboard space, books that have been read and won’t be again, shoes and bags that no longer see the light of day. Rather than letting those things drift to the tip or sit indefinitely in storage, a doorstep donation collection gives them a clear, purposeful route to someone else who needs them — and raises funds for causes you actually care about at the same time.

There’s also a straightforward environmental case for choosing reuse over disposal. Across the UK, an estimated one million tonnes of reusable household goods are thrown away every year. When items like kitchenware, toys and bric-a-brac are donated and reused instead, they save the raw materials, water and energy that would otherwise be consumed making replacements — and they stay out of Devon’s already-pressured landfill sites. For a city of Exeter’s size, even a modest increase in the number of households donating rather than discarding can make a meaningful difference to how much ends up as waste. These are estimates drawn from published UK figures, but the direction of travel is clear: reuse is consistently better for the environment than disposal.

Working alongside Exeter City Council, we’re part of a broader effort to make responsible disposal genuinely easy for local residents. You shouldn’t need to drive across the city or wait for a specific collection event to do the right thing with your unwanted items — and with our free doorstep service, you don’t have to.

The Feel-Good Side of a Clear-Out

There’s something quietly satisfying about reclaiming space you’d forgotten you had. Whether it’s a shelf that’s been stacked with things you no longer use, or a wardrobe rail so full that finding anything takes longer than it should, clearing that space tends to leave you feeling lighter — and not just in a practical sense. Knowing that the things you’ve let go are heading somewhere useful, rather than straight to landfill, adds a layer of satisfaction that a simple bin run never quite delivers.

For Exeter households, the combination of a free, zero-effort collection and a direct link to charitable fundraising makes it easy to feel good about clearing out. You’re not just tidying up — you’re helping raise vital funds for causes that matter, putting usable items back into circulation for people who need them, and freeing up your own home in the process. It’s one of those relatively rare situations where doing something for yourself and doing something for others genuinely overlap.
