Thurrock Shoe Donations Collected Free From Your Door

Thurrock households get through a lot of footwear. Between school runs, building work at the port, dog walks along the Thames path and everyday family life, it’s no surprise that trainers, boots and wellies pile up in hallways, under stairs and at the back of wardrobes long after they’ve stopped being worn. Anglo Doorstep Collections offers a free way to move that footwear on, picking it up directly from your doorstep anywhere across Thurrock and giving it a genuine second life with someone who needs it.

With a population of around 174,000 spread across Grays, Tilbury, Purfleet, South Ockendon and the surrounding villages, Thurrock has no shortage of homes quietly storing shoes nobody wears any more. We collect from all of these areas on the same free doorstep service, so wherever you live locally, booking a collection takes just a couple of minutes and costs nothing.

  • Wearable shoes, boots, trainers and wellies given a second life rather than sent to landfill
  • Every donation helps raise vital funds for good causes and charities

We take trainers, boots (Chelsea boots, UGGs, knee-high and walking boots included), sandals, heels, wedges, smart shoes, slippers and wellington boots, in both adult and children’s sizes. The only requirement is that each pair is clean, dry and in a condition you’d be happy handing to a friend — if that’s true, it’s worth a spot in the bag.

They need to still be wearable rather than falling apart — soles intact, no major damage, ready for someone else to put straight on. A pair that’s scuffed but sound is perfectly fine; a pair with the sole hanging off or holes through the upper won’t find a new owner and is best left out of the donation bag.

Tie laces together or wrap an elastic band round each pair so they don’t get separated in transit, and give muddy soles a wipe so everything goes out clean and dry. Bag or box your shoes apart from any clothing donations and label the bag “shoes” so the driver can see straight away what’s inside.

No — most Thurrock bookings are left out on the doorstep or in a porch, shed or another safe spot. Just pop a note in the booking form telling the driver exactly where to find the bag, and they’ll take it from there without you needing to stay in.

Very much so. Children tend to outgrow shoes long before they wear them out, so school shoes, trainers and wellies that have had only a few months’ use are exactly what another family can get real wear from. It’s also a simple way to declutter a children’s bedroom or hallway without anything useful going to waste.

Wearable pairs are passed on for reuse, going to someone who needs them rather than sitting unworn in a Thurrock cupboard, and a large percentage of proceeds from donations goes to charity. It’s a straightforward way of keeping good footwear circulating locally instead of letting it go to waste.

Yes — a footwear clear-out often uncovers more to donate, so we also collect clothes, linen and towels, books, toys, household items and kitchenware, all on the same visit. See our full collections near you page or browse every collection we run across Essex.

We work alongside Thurrock Council as part of supporting reuse across the borough, helping keep wearable footwear in circulation rather than in landfill. It’s one strand of a wider local effort to make donating easy for residents across Essex.

Worldwide, around 23.9 billion pairs of shoes were made in 2024 alone, and the way most are constructed — layers of leather, rubber, foam and synthetics bonded together — means fewer than 5% are ever recycled once they’re worn out. In the UK, an estimated 85% of discarded shoes end up in landfill, and producing just one typical pair of running shoes is thought to generate around 14 kg of CO2. Set against that, giving a pair of shoes a second owner costs nothing in resources at all — it’s simply donating shoes, trainers and boots that still have life left in them, which for a borough the size of Thurrock, with its mix of towns, villages and riverside communities, is a genuinely easy way to support both the local circular economy and the charities that rely on these donations.
