Where Your Donations Go: A Transparent Breakdown

At Anglo Doorstep Collections, we collect a wide range of donated items—from t-shirts to frying pans! But have you ever wondered where your donations go and how they support our partner charities? Here’s a complete breakdown of what happens to every item we receive!

Step 1—We Categorise Donations At Our Warehouse

All the donations we collect each day are transported to one of our warehouses. Once there, they are carefully sorted into five categories

  1. Clothes & Shoes
  2. Books
  3. Bed linens & Towels
  4. CDs & DVDs
  5. Bric-a-Brac

All our good-condition books we receive are donated to the Children’s Book Project. They then give them to nurseries, schools, and community spaces. While we avoid collecting heavily worn or damaged books, any that do come in are responsibly recycled.

We donate bed linens and towels to Battersea Dogs & Cats Home, where they are repurposed as cosy bedding for animals in their care.

The rest of the bric-a-brac is further sorted into categories such as kitchenware, appliances, soft toys, and hard toys.

Once everything is organised, the items are ready to be transported to their next destination, ensuring they continue to make a meaningful impact!

Step 2—Distributing & Selling the Items

All the donations we receive are distributed across the world! While some remain in the UK, others travel as far as the Philippines, Africa, and South America, depending on where they’re needed most. For example, summer clothes are typically sent to markets in Africa. On the other hand, winter clothing is directed to colder countries like Ukraine.

The markets we send donations to make household essentials more affordable and accessible. They also support a circular economy, where items are reused instead of producing new ones. This helped us save over 123,000 tonnes of CO2 last year alone!

But what happens after these items are sold to distributors? How does this process help support our partner charities? Let’s break it down!

Step 3—Donating Our Proceeds

Many of the charities we support prefer monetary donations over physical items, which is why we donate 60% of our proceeds directly to them. When you book a collection, you can choose a specific charity to support, or if you have no preference, we’ll split the funds evenly among our partner charities.

The remaining 40% is reinvested into expanding our services, allowing us to keep collections free of charge and make donating as easy and accessible as possible. What started as a small collection service in one region of England has now grown to cover most of the country and parts of Wales!

Our ultimate goal? To expand across the entire UK, giving everyone the opportunity to donate instead of discarding their unwanted household items—helping both communities in need and the environment.
