Carlisle Wardrobe Sort-Out? Free Doorstep Clothes Pickup
Carlisle wardrobes fill up fast — border weather means layers for every season, and most households end up with coats, jumpers and jeans that have simply fallen out of rotation. Rather than letting them sit in a bag at the bottom of the cupboard or making a special trip to the tip, Anglo Doorstep Collections will come straight to your door, free of charge, anywhere across the city and in Dalston, Brampton, Wetheral and Longtown. Booking a clothes collection takes a couple of minutes online.

Skip the Bulky-Waste Fee
Cumberland Council’s bulky-waste collection comes with a charge and a wait for a slot. Ours doesn’t — there’s nothing to pay, no booking fee, and no need to lump clothing in with a bulky-item collection at all.
Water and Energy Stay Saved
A single cotton t-shirt takes an estimated 2,700 litres of water to produce. Keeping clothes in circulation instead of buying new means that water, along with the energy and raw material behind it, is never spent twice.
No Trip to Town Required
No carrying bags into the city centre, no charity-shop queue, no detour to the tip. We collect from your doorstep, and you’ll get your time slot the evening before so you know exactly when to expect us.
What a Donated Garment Actually Saves
The figures behind every bag you hand over
Carlisle’s Share of a National Problem
The UK discards around 920,000 tonnes of textiles a year — roughly 13 kg per person. Applied to Carlisle’s population of around 75,000, that works out to an estimated 975 tonnes of clothing thrown away locally every year, much of it still wearable.
CO2 Avoided by Reuse
Based on published UK estimates, reusing around 1 kg of clothing avoids roughly 3–4 kg of CO2 compared with manufacturing a new garment. Synthetic fabrics, meanwhile, can sit in landfill for decades without breaking down at all.
A Bag With a Second Purpose
A full bag of clothing, roughly 8–10 kg, can save many thousands of litres of water across its contents once reused rather than replaced. It also goes to charities and reuse partners, and a large percentage of proceeds goes to charity.
Why This Matters More Than It Seems
Second-hand clothing still has plenty of life left in it
A coat you’ve stopped reaching for hasn’t stopped being a good coat — it’s simply stopped being useful to you. Passed on, it carries on doing its job for someone else entirely, which is really the whole case for a second-hand economy: value doesn’t disappear when an item changes hands, it just moves. Clothes are particularly well suited to this. A jumper or pair of jeans rarely wears out in step with how long it’s actually worn, so there’s usually plenty of genuine use left once it leaves your house.
Clear-outs in Carlisle tend to follow life rather than the calendar. A house move, a new job with a different dress code, a child who’s shot up two sizes since Christmas, or simply a wardrobe that’s become unmanageable — all of these leave behind clothing that’s entirely sound but no longer wanted. Rather than letting it sit in a bag “to deal with later,” a doorstep collection means it leaves the house properly, heading to reuse rather than to the bin out of sheer inconvenience.
Once you’ve booked, there’s nothing further to arrange. Seal your garments into bags — coats, shirts, dresses, jumpers, hoodies and jeans can all go in together, with heavier items in their own bag if it makes carrying easier — and leave them on the step or in the porch for your allocated slot. You don’t need to be in; the driver collects and takes everything on to the charities and reuse partners we work with, and from there your garments go on to be worn again.
What We Collect in Carlisle
If it’s clean, dry and wearable, it’s ready to go
We take coats, jackets, shirts, blouses, jeans, trousers, dresses, skirts, jumpers, cardigans, hoodies, sweaters, t-shirts and general tops — anything you’d be happy handing to a neighbour. We’re not able to collect socks, underwear, personalised clothing or nightwear such as dressing gowns and pyjamas, so please keep those out of the bag. Everything else just needs to be clean and dry before we arrive.

Carlisle and the Surrounding Villages
One free service, right across the area
Carlisle sits where the city meets the countryside, and that shapes who struggles to get a clothing donation to a shop or bank in the first place. For someone without easy access to a car, or juggling work and family with no spare hour in the week, a charity shop trip is one errand too many. A doorstep collection takes that obstacle away entirely — there’s no journey to plan and nothing to carry further than your own front step.
We collect under the same terms out in Dalston, Brampton, Wetheral and Longtown, so a bagful cleared from a farmhouse near Longtown or a terraced house in Brampton is picked up exactly as it would be in the city centre. Book, bag it, leave it out — the process doesn’t change depending on which side of Carlisle you’re on.
“Most people in Carlisle already mean to donate — it’s finding the time that gets in the way. Collection from the doorstep removes that excuse entirely.”
Clearing More Than the Wardrobe?
We can take more in the same visit
If a clothing clear-out has spilled over into other rooms, we can often help with that too — we also collect books, toys and household items on the same visit, so you’re not arranging separate collections for separate rooms. To see everywhere we cover, check collections near you.
