Jaxson’s Story

Our charity partner Together for Short Lives provides support to children suffering from life limiting conditions and their families to give them the support they need during these difficult times.

Together for Short Lives helps children like Jaxson and his family

Jaxson is a 17 month old boy who in September last year was placed on palliative care after being diagnosed with a complex heart condition and a rare genetic disorder Mowat-Wilson Syndrome. Jaxson’s family have faced multiple challenges in trying to get the care that Jaxson needs. In February Jaxson’s dad Jim started to do his own research and came across the NICE guidelines for end of life care for infants, children and young people who are living with life-limiting condtions.

Only a third of local areas in England and Scotland and Wales are meeting the required standard for 24/7 end of life care. In Northern Ireland this isn’t met at all.

Jaxson’s dad Jim is calling for the government to end the postcode lottery of care to ensure that children like Jaxson are able to get the care they need. Jim has written a letter to the Prime Minster asking for funding so Jaxson and children alike can access 24/7 palliative and end of life care. Whether it be in hospital, at home or in a childrens hospice and this shouldn’t depend on their needs not their postcode.

There are clear actions which the Government can take, but we need your voice to make sure those in power take them.

How can you help?

Spare a few minutes and sign Jim’s open letter to the Prime Minister and end this serious health inequality.
