Privacy policy
How the Anglo Doorstep app handles your information. Last updated 20 October 2026.
Who we are
Anglo Doorstep Collections collects unwanted clothing and textiles from your doorstep and turns them into funds for charity. We are the data controller for the information described on this page.
This policy covers the Anglo Doorstep app on iOS and Android. Our website is covered by our main privacy policy.
What we collect, and why
- Your name — so the driver knows whose collection it is.
- Your email address — this is your account. We use it to sign you in and to send you booking confirmations and reminders about collections you have booked.
- Your address and postcode — we are sending a van to it.
- Your phone number — so we can contact you about a collection.
- Messages you send us — only if you choose to contact us through the help screen. This is optional; the app works without it.
- Photos you choose to send us — only a photo you pick or take yourself, for a help request or a large collection. The app cannot see the rest of your photos.
- Your password — stored only as a one-way hash. We cannot read it, and nobody at Anglo can tell you what it is.
- A notification code for your phone — if you turn on notifications, so we can send you collection reminders and replies to your messages. Signing out removes it.
- How you use our messages — whether a message we sent you in the app was opened or tapped, and a daily count of the phones using the app. This tells us whether our messages are useful; it is not a record of the screens you look at.
- Crash reports — if the app crashes or a page fails to load, the app sends us the error, the app version and the phone model. These do not include your name, email or address.
- Basic technical information — your IP address and the time of a request, kept in our server logs to keep the service secure and to diagnose faults.
What we do not collect
- Your device's location. The app never asks for location permission. Your postcode is something you type, not something we read from your phone.
- An advertising ID. The app does not use one and does not contain any advertising software.
- Third-party analytics or tracking. There is no analytics service in the app, and we do not track you across other apps or websites.
- Your contacts, calendar, microphone or files, or any photo you have not chosen to send us.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with anyone for advertising or marketing.
We use a small number of suppliers who process data on our behalf, under contract, and only to do the job we ask of them:
- Amazon Web Services — hosting and databases, in the AWS London region.
- OptimoRoute — plans the driver's route for the day, which needs the collection address.
- Amazon SES and SMTP2GO — deliver the emails we send you.
- Google (Firebase Cloud Messaging) and Apple — deliver the app's notifications to your phone, using the notification code above.
We will also disclose information if the law requires it.
Why we are allowed to hold it
Under UK GDPR we rely on performance of a contract for everything needed to arrange and carry out your collection, and on our legitimate interests in keeping the service secure and answering the messages you send us.
How long we keep it
Your account and the addresses saved on it are kept for as long as you have an account. Delete the account and they go with it.
Records of collections we have already made stay on our system afterwards. They are business records of work that took place and are how the charity donations are accounted for. If you want those removed too, ask us and we will handle it as an erasure request — see our data policy.
Keeping it safe
Everything the app sends travels over an encrypted HTTPS connection. Passwords are stored as one-way hashes, never in a form anyone can read, and repeated wrong guesses temporarily lock an account.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account and everything on it from inside the app, or from our account deletion page — which works without installing the app. Deleting cancels any collection you have booked that has not happened yet, so no van will come.
If you cannot sign in, the same page lets you ask us to do it for you. We aim to deal with requests within 30 days.
Your rights
You have the right to ask us for a copy of your data, to have it corrected or erased, to restrict or object to how we use it, and to receive it in a portable form. Email us and we will deal with it within 30 days.
If you are not happy with how we have handled your information you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Children
The app is meant for adults arranging a collection from their own address. It is not directed at children and we do not knowingly create accounts for them.
Changes
If we change how the app handles your information we will update this page and the date at the top of it before the change takes effect.
